Work the way
that works
for you.

RECHARGE
Inspired by various insights from others surrounding remote working during the extended period of the Covid19 epidemic, I wanted to understand the effects of remote work and the difficulties individuals experience in both home-based isolation and office-based working.
Journal Analysis
To help me get a better understanding of the issues remote workers face,
I asked a number of my interview participants to journal a work day.
The goal of this activity was to closely analyse how their work affects their thoughts, emotions and actions. In the process, recording any periods of stress, low energy and loss of productivity.

Key Insights
Following interviews with my participants I highlighted some recurring themes/pain points that came up regarding remote working and taking breaks.
"My friends have the same issue. So everyone else working home, they have this guilt, they're not travelling to work and they feel like they have to spend more time on the laptop."
"I still don't take breaks because it's so like deeply embedded in me."
"I find it really strange. Like I don't like stepping away from what I'm doing."
"The first thing you should try to do is make a little planner for the day. If I don't do that I get overwhelmed."

Following my interviews, I then audited my notes. Arranging conversation trends into sub-topics that were relevant to all of my conversations.
Discussing topics
in further details
To get a better understanding of the subject and my previous insights, I ran a workshop with 5 participants to prioritise their thoughts surrounding my findings. We also discussed their needs, wants and any ideas they may have had regarding the issues at hand.

Defining the problem

People who work both in the office and remotely are faced with a universal challenge, that is, managing their time and tasks in an efficient way.
Through the diary studies of my interview participants, there was a recurring theme of people becoming more fatigued and losing focus if they did not take breaks.

There also seemed to be a loss of focus on tasks and task management either throughout the day or during the morning.
The next step was to create user personas to give me a holistic set of users to design for.

Validating my ideas
After using the crazy 8 method to quickly generate some interesting ideas, I held another workshop to get feedback from potential users. I started the workshop by explaining each concept through a series of brief storyboard sketches. I then asked them to arrange the ideas into their top top 5.

Application Map
Based on the research and persona discovery, I brainstormed, compiled and organized the necessary content and functionality. I decided to include the most vital information in the new version to make it clean and easy to navigate.

User & Task Flow
I created the user task flow for creating a new focus session, that is one of the most important site’s functionality.
