THE EASY WAY.
LEARN
DESIGN
THE GOAL
To give designers a platform to up-skill

Let's face it, mastering any Adobe programme isn't an easy feat. As designers, we are all required to move with the ever evolving global industry that is design as to not become obsolete in our areas or expertise.
Very few of us have mastered the tools of our trade, but know enough to get the results we need. We are often faced with frustration when needing to add a tool to our belt in the form of a new design skill or even learning a new technique within the programmes we already know.

A DESIGNERS
UNIVERSAL PAIN IN THE...
I believe that there is a need for a learning / social app specifically for designers who need to learn new skills / techniques whilst working on the job and need quick solutions.
This will Help designers quickly overcome skill based obstacles whilst working with clients and their requests, help designers broaden their skills and even learn new skills, bring designers together to help each other by sharing the way they design and any tips or tricks they may have themselves.
USER RESEARCH
To validate my assumptions I started my research by asking some general questions regarding learning new skills and how user liked to learn.

5/5
OF SERVEY PARTICIPANTS SAID THEY PREFER TO LEARN FROM VISUAL STIMULATION.

5/5
PARTICIPANTS ALSO SAID THEIR
JOB REQUIRES THEM TO
UP-SKILL AT SOME POINT.

4/5
SAID THEY FIND IT DIFFICULT TO RETAIN WHAT THEY HAVE LEARNT
IN ONLINE TUTORIALS.

4/5
SAID SELF DIRECTED LEARNING CAN BE DIFFICULT.

INTERVIEWS
As well as online surveys I also conducted 1-1 interviews
to get some first-hand feedback and user interaction.

Yasmin
20
Graphic Design Student
Yasmin is a Graphic Design student in her 2nd year of university. She is always trying to learn new design skills and stay on-top of current design trends and new software.
KEY POINTS
I like the feeling of learning new skills that make me more capable. I also like the growth when learning things.
I usually have a playlist on my Youtube of everything I've previously learnt for future reference.
I like to hear and see how to do something as it's faster.
Firstly I watch videos on youtube regarding the thing I need to learn, then I take my own notes to break the steps down and summarise, then I'll try it again over the next few days / weeks
to refresh and retain the technique.
It can be frustrating when there is something I need that's specific as there may not directly be a video for it.
I usually check to see if a video has time stamps
It's good, especially when their other students because they share the same empathy as you, having not known something they had needed for deadlines. So they take the time to explain thoroughly .
YAARA
38
Freelance Graphic Designer
Yaara is a freelance graphic designer who has an array of experience across a broad spectrum of industries.
She is typically an "old school" designer but is eager to move into new areas of design such as motion graphics and 3D visualising.

KEY POINTS
I would love a connection, someone who can help me with a specific field or software. I would definitely prefer that.
There's a lot of jargon in tutorials and
I just want to get to the point.
I look in the video for the part I need and sometimes it’s annoying.
If I had a line of experts that I could just message with my problem and they could answer, I would definitely do that.
The other tedious part is the search process. Actually finding what I need.

SABIRA
29
Freelance Interior Designer
Sabira is a freelance interior designer. She has also dabbled in illustration and fashion design and would like to push her design skills further to kick start her own swim wear brand.
KEY POINTS
Sometimes I feel like I don’t know where to start and like I’m piecing together a puzzle.
I Would like to see a desktop app for tutorials specifically for designers.
I like when people reach out to me
for help, it feels rewarding.
I don’t feel comfortable in a work environment asking for help so I end up on my own trying to figure something out and it takes much longer that way.
I fee like a lot of the videos I try to learn from I find redundant, the only way I get my head around it is to ask others to sit with me or to explain things to me.
I do things as I watch them.
